My Story
I'm Reggie, and I've racked up a solid 25+ years working in the Information Technology sector of Corporate America. While I've had my share of incredible experiences collaborating with outstanding colleagues, jet-setting around the world, and keeping up with cutting-edge technologies, there's a side of the story that's been lurking in the shadows.
Picture this – corporate restructurings, team reorganizations, and the heartache of saying goodbye to valuable team members. These were the constant undercurrents that often overshadowed the glittering facade. Despite the glamor, I found myself grappling with a disquieting sense of uncertainty.
Once upon a time, I was a part of a tight-knit crew at a smaller organization, wearing the hat of an IT System Admin. Our tech arsenal included all things Microsoft – servers, laptops, apps – as well as Cisco's routers and switches. And let's not forget the Blackberry servers (yeah, I know, a bit old-school). The cash flow of the organization relied on corporate membership dues, where companies paid to have a voice on Capitol Hill. When dues took a dip, it felt like the domino effect, resulting in budget cuts and, more often than not, layoffs.
There's this vivid memory etched in my mind – the day of the layoff announcements. We were confined to our offices or desks from 9 in the morning till noon, waiting anxiously for a call from the higher-ups. The sound of a ringing phone down the hallway was enough to send a shiver down your spine. When noon struck, it was like a release from a temporary captivity, as we emerged from our spaces, silently taking stock of who made the cut. It was a mix of relief and an odd feeling of guilt that you were spared yet again. A few weeks down the line, the organization would throw a grand holiday bash – a strange contrast to the prevailing mood. While the holiday spirit might have been in short supply, the allure of free food and drinks provided a welcome distraction from the grind.
Now, try to imagine the toll this routine took – the mental and physical strain, the emotional turmoil.
My final corporate stint was relatively promising – abundant opportunities, solid teammates, and managers who seemed to know their way around the labyrinthine corporate landscape. But over the years, my enthusiasm waned. I lost that sense of connection to my role, and the once-familiar faces started fading into a crowd of strangers. It was clear that a change was in order, but despite that realization, I hesitated to take the reins of change into my own hands. Then, last year, the universe made that choice for me with a team reorganization, and I found myself at a crossroads.
The mental and physical strain we put ourselves through is remarkable. We become desensitized to the annual cycle of corporate upheavals. While I understand that restructuring can be a necessary step for businesses, in some cases, it's a cloak for shedding those no longer deemed necessary. You can see the telltale signs when friends who are still in the corporate game shoot you a message saying, "Guess what? Your role just got a makeover..."
So, here I stand, on the threshold of change. A journey to escape the grind that's had its grip on me for far too long. As a wise individual once said, "Change is the only constant," and another sagely soul advised, "Pack your own parachute."
It all started with a random scroll through TikTok one evening, stumbling upon a peculiar video that revealed the path to kick starting an online business and breaking free from the shackles of the daily grind.

In this modern world, having that entrepreneurial flair is key – not necessarily founding your own company, but crafting a side hustle.
Have you lived through company downsizing?
Were you on the team as a big corporation geared up for a massive makeover?
Sat in those meetings where they drop the bomb that everything's about to shift?
And then comes the gut punch – you're not in on the change. Ouch. A hard hit. Suddenly, all those hours, sweat, and dedication seem to count for nothing. The emotional ride of sorrow, hurt, and rage ensues.
Guess what? I've been there too. At the start, I was blue and thinking, "Why me?" Then came the fire – "Seriously, after all I've given?!" And eventually, anxiety crept in – "What's next for me?"
But amidst the swirl of thoughts, a lightbulb flickered: "How can I dodge this trap in the future? How do I snatch up independence?" I was all about constructing something for myself – tapping into years of experience to forge a fresh path.
